art critical
Read this fabulous interview with Jerry Saltz and Roberta Smith. I respect both of their work so much and especially how they are always honest, frank and keep it about art. Read.
another excellent article by Smith on the danger and shame of the current art market.

swear.
I swear I am alive, I still love you, I still have so much in my voice to say, I have so much stitching out of my fingers but what I do not have is so much time. I am working every free minute I have to get this piece done for a show in February and I am feeling so pressed.
So it just seems that to get here and speak to you wonderful, creative beauties never ends up happening. But I am here in my studio making as much as my little body can. I hope you are too.
take life by the seat of your pants
Very sad as this unique spirit is no longer walking amongst us but just seeing this artist video makes me want to grab my life and creativity by the seat of the pants and go.

This young woman makes me want to love a little more, be a little more wacky, wear what I want and make everything I can dream of. See more of her lovely work here.

simply laborious
some interesting work by Japanese born NYC based artist Kumi Yamashita. She creates technically amazing and conceptually driven portraits from very unique and often laborious processes.
Such as a single thread and nails.
Credit card rubbings.
Shoe prints on sheets.
Shadow.
and pulling threads. See more here.
ergh and ack,
I have not had a real studio day for over 2 weeks and it is kind of driving me crazy. But I have been diligently working on this work and it is taking me forever. I opened it up to see my progress and to be frank it was overwhelming.
I need to have this work done for a show in February and have now realized that I essentially can do nothing for the next 2 months but stitch on it. I am loving the work but ack it is a slow one. I am really struggling with balance of time, work, studio, and my energy level. I have dropped the ball on so many things this fall simply as they just do not win the war of importance but it makes me bummed out.
Oh I wish we could do it all.
But I am really looking forward to my exhibit in January though I have no idea what it is actually going to be. Ergh.

studio rambles
oh my I cannot believe thanksgiving was just 4 days ago- time just blurs by with such a full life. I hope your holiday was wonderful and joyful and full of good food.
I got to meet up with a very good friend of mine from grad school and NYC which was a total treat. But of course that always gets me thinking about the city and my career and all that fun jazz.
I am trying to embrace the ebb and flow of my practice, my career and the time of my life but sometimes my impatience and ambition make that very hard. I really miss nothing about living my day to day life in nyc but I do worry about how my career will grow and get better not being there. Boston's scene is so difficult as the galleries are mostly conservative or the hipper ones are very anti-aesthetic in style so I am so struggling in finding a place for my work here. And it is so hard to stay involved in nyc when I am not there. Life here is so much more suited to my soul even if I do not see enough good art on a regular basis. But yet I do. A bit of a ramble but a lot of what is going on in my head this weekend.
How do you have the career, with the work, with the life you want? The answer and balance is there but I am still figuring it out. Does anyone know the secret? ha.
