come visit me at my open studios!!

Opening tonight !!!!! and Open Studios all weekend!!!
Come one come all...I know many of you readers out there are in NYC so stop by...
Tonight we have an opening (I will not be there until late)
and
Saturday and Sunday fun, fun open studios.
My studio building is here.... and the opening is there as well.
It is in Park Slope on 18th and 5th.
We have lots of great artists in our building, I am in the basement.
I would love to see any of you there...love art.

I look forward to showing pics of my new studio soon, it is looking good.

sentiments...

sentiments... a piece that consists of many hand embroidered found handkerchiefs and napkins.
The words are embroidered in my script and are a collection of daily reflection, daily questioning, and daily thoughts....
The hoops act as a frame and a lens....

I am a bit distraught about how bad the color of all my images are. I am very disappointed in the quality of documentation I got. But what can I do. I hope it still works for my purposes!!!

up and running....

so da, da, dahhh.... Here it goes. Today will just be an overview of the work and as the week goes on I will do more focused images, etc (mainly due to my laziness).... So the above is a great shot, by C, of everyone checking out my photo wall.
I was super happy with the wall... though after a 12 hour day of installing I decided I needed to move it. Agh.

Another C shot of our friends M & S. I sailed happily through the reception.

Here is a shot of K checking out Megan's work. Her MFA was in the gallery next door. It is titled Among these things and was lovely...

So these are like shots in the round... each wall featured....

I hope you like it and would love your feedback...I promise that I will keep them coming:)

advice to a younger self....

One of my students recently reminded me of my old love for Duane Michals, one of my earliest photography favorites...
His poetic words are so amazing.....

"While wandering in Arcadia, I chanced to meet myself as a young man. He asked me if I knew the things in life he should pursue. I thought then answered as best I could. If I were young again and you, I would will my mind to always be free for truth flourishes in freedom, and it is the root of integrity. The search for truth flourishes in unfettered serendipity’s surprise. Stay free to risk the possibilities of life. Be free of the fear of failure, since true failure is to be afraid to fail. Remember now never happens twice, and fate is never late. Free yourself from the want of things, and find happiness in nothing, for only nothing lasts. Life is a great question, but no question can be answered till it is asked. That is your task, to free your curiosity and ask of me impossible questions, whose answers can be seen in the twilight of my imagination’s dreams, where I invent the meaning of everything.”

So excited and then

I was so excited to finally be able to be back in the blogosphere and share images of my work..show..etc...
And then... my internet will not work.
Our network got hacked and my computer is not connecting now!!!!!
So until C is home later today to fix the problem... no go.
I will upload some pictures later today and truly be back on track.
So glad the hectic week and such is over... it has been long and stressful, but the light at the end of the tunnel is shining brighter with each day.

lovely?

So in my thesis I state (with the help of a friend) that lovely is a word used to describe everything from a wedding to a funeral....
and that is the very reason I chose the word lovely... as my show title.

well, it seems appropriate even now...
this thing that is indefinable, wonderful, beautiful, but not necessarily "good or pleasant."

I had no idea how difficult this process would be.
I had no idea I would be the way I have been during this process.
And I had no idea that I would not feel the way I wanted or expected at the end of all this.
I do not feel accomplishment, I feel like I have just begun, I have so much more work to do...
I have so much to improve, to change, to evolve....
and I know this is a good thing, that mentally I am already responding, critiquing, expanding on what I have done.
But there is a part of me, and at the moment a BIG part of me that just wishes this felt wonderful.
And it does not...
This is the path I have chosen.
And I would not change a thing.
But this road is not smooth, not always pleasant, and not easy.

I look forward to coming back here and sharing what is next instead of what is.
Seeing my work in a gallery is so different then seeing it in my studio.
Getting critiqued in a a gallery is so different then in my studio.
And I look forward to getting back to my studio

Brick walls are there for a reason They give us a chance to show how badly we want something. They [only] stop the people who don't want it badly enough...
The Last Lecture, Randy Pausch

Seems true enough to me!!!

it's done...

Finally the install is done.
We were in the gallery for 11 full hours on Saturday and in and out all day Sunday and did not leave until 11pm. So needless to say I need a drink, a nap, a bath, and a massage.

But I think it looks great and am looking forward to having my routine and life back!!!!
So here are some teaser images you do not get the full view until after the reception Thursday.
Hope you are intrigued.....

the layers of my mind...

The next few days will be lite on the posts.
My install is Saturday and my Mom and sister are in town to be my assistants, thank goodness for family...

This image illustrates how my mind feels, layered and a little confused, and deep down very lovely.
