time marches on...
I will be honest, it has been awhile since I have seen work that gets my heart beating a little faster and I am just blown away. This is one of the pitfalls of being an overeducated viewer. I have seen SO much. But it just happened. The work of New Orleans artist Hannah Chalew totally got me excited.
Her work explores the post Katrina world of New Orleans and how life moves on and takes over and rebuilds. Her work mostly focusing on "ruins" and nature. Her work visually is stunning, she has a a wonderful hand at drawing, a great sense of negative space and composition and she pushes at the box- combining her drawing with paint, stitches, both hand and machine, paper cutting techniques and pushing it all out into a dimensionality that rocks.
I really love this woman's work and it has inspired and idea for an exhibit and -- I cannot believe everybody is not blogging about her. See more work here, the site is totally worth looking all the way through.

WoW! Really wonderful work. Thanks for turning us on to her.
Her work is incredible. I love the detail in both the drawings and the stitching, so much to take in!
She brings out the beauty in her surroundings.
so glad you all like her work as much as I do. Not that I am surprised how could you not. It is oh so lovely.
