Sweet, Sweet...

Making Nice series

Enchanted

This is work from artist and friend Cathy McLaurin...  She is an amazingly talented artist, with a lovely sensibility...
She does installation and 2d work.  You illustrators and printmakers I know will really appreciate her new work (top images).

From her Secrets installation

I know Cathy because she is one of the people behind the Essex Art Center which is an amazing art center in Lawrence, MA.  They offer classes, have studios, and 2 great galleries.  One of which Cathy is the director of.  I am proud to say I use to teach there and worked with many of the talented people that are part of this space.
Peruse around Cathy's site and get inspired, plus her site is so well designed and lovely, makes me feel like I need to get to work on mine....
another project she is working on...

Saturday sleep in...

Sorry, no post yesterday... Fridays are tough I teach for 6 hours and then I drive back to NYC.  So generally I am wiped out by the time I have a moment...
But last night we went out and had some drinks with friends, it was nice to unwind....
And today we just spent the morning in bed.... it is warm and sunny here today so it was nice to wallow in the clean sheets and sunlight...That is about all I have to say...
We are going for a walk, without a coat!!!!  Spring is on her way, yeah!!!

Delicious mornings...

This is our new coffee pick.  It is so yummy.  The chicoree makes it so nutty and delicious.
It is especially good with some warm milk in it.  We got introduced to it at a charming New Orleans restaurant around here.
The tin is great too, I have a feeling that once it is empty I will adopt it for another use.
The little girl tin is what we store our whole bean coffee in, it makes the ritual of morning coffee that much nicer.
And B likes the way it smells too.

Morning Ritual

I received my photos from the Nectar and Light Photo Exchange from Molly.
I am delighted by the fact that we were both drawn to the bed...
It is such a provocative space...
Here is the image I sent her...

Women of the Cloth, Pt. 3

So here is the artist Emily Wolf her piece is called Murder and is a lovely knitted, wrapped, and stained blue floor piece.  The blue smear on the floor pedestal really makes the piece...oh the colors were scrumptious.  I could not find any information on Emily so I just can share this piece....So many inspiring artists out there.

good moments

I love the light in my humble little apartment in Mass.
The light floods in, in  very magical ways and always makes my days here a lot better.
I love my mornings in Mass. ...
it is more the nights falling asleep alone that are hard.

So the fact I have this beautiful crochet afghan from my grandma on my bed makes me feel a little less alone.
I just received this at christmas...my 80 (?) year old gradndam made one for me and my sister it was such a nice surprise and I can so imagine it on my future children's bed...
but for now when I walk in my very sparse little home away from home it helps to make me feel like I am not alone.

make a panel...

                                     Ann C. Kittredge

Tatiana Sarasa

Jane Linders, Crude Awakening
I just found this amazing project organized by artist Jennifer Marsh.
She is going to cover an old gas station with handmade panels made by 80+ artists.
The panels are made in anyway the artist chooses out of fabric and comment in some way on the U.S consumption of oil...such an interesting idea and I am going to get working away to try to make a panel to contribute.
The deadline is so close but maybe you super quick people can do it too.
Too see all the panels submitted as of yet look here.

And Jennifer Marsh's work is pretty great too...

Women of the cloth, Pt 2.

self portait with son

This is artist Leslie Schomp, a professor at the College of the Holy Cross, coincidentally so are they...
The top work is at the Women of Cloth show, the other work was found online.
Unfortunately, she does not have much of a web presence so I do not have much information to share. But her work is so lovely.

She embroiders with her hair, which I cannot even imagine how she does that but... she does and it is gorgeous.  The images have a very photographic quality.

I also love how the 2 portraits are presented on the little stands, it is a good resolution for presentation.

and since she is a mother, I still need help with this...

a voice...

In honor of all the amazing voices I have heard this week, voices of honesty, of strength, and of imperfection... I thought this quote from Joanna Frueh's performance Mouthpiece was appropriate and inspiring...

I speak for those of you who don't yet know your words,
who've lost your tongues,
who have not found your voice,
who are afraid to tell your stories,
fearful they may be too telling.

Women of Cloth, Pt. 1.

So I finally have time to share the amazing artists from the Women of Cloth Exhibition I am in.
Because I know that we all only have a moment to visit each others blogs instead of sharing them all at once I will do one at a time. That way they each will get the attention they deserve.

The opening was a huge success.   I was so impressed with the crowd and they are having 3 conferences in the building this month, so more people to see, and an artist talk this Thursday at 1pm.  I do not think I can make it but it would be so interesting.

Laying, 2006 &2007

Wife and Sometimes, 2007
This is my work (above and the top image).  I really liked how the curator arranged the pillows, they worked in the space very well.  And the embroideries looked great... she actually interpreted them different but I liked it. Sometimes it is nice to see how others look at and arrange your work.

This piece is called Tablecloth and is by Kasia Bytnerowicz
I believe this was my favorite piece in the show (and my Dad's, he was my date)  She had 2 pieces in the show like this and they are lovely.  She paints on burlap and through an embroidery technique she creates the detail, she uses negative space in the embroidery (such as taking away the cloth) to create a truly lovely image.  I wish I could afford this because I LOVE IT.
Here are some more images from her website:

I have so many great women artists to share with you as a result of this show and my performance I will have material for posts for weeks now....hope you enjoy....
