pins and thread.

Pretty much all I have to say right now is... umm awesome! This is the work of Debbie Smyth.

Her newest installation is Fly away home and was created for the Stroud International Textile Festival.

I love her playfullness.

Her ability to work from very small scale to large scale is awesome.
Her style of illustration is just my taste narrative but simple, messy but controlled. Like I said "awesome."
Here are some details of the work...

See more here and follow her work on her blog here.

Thank you Joetta. In the past few weeks when my teaching and mothering absorb all of my time and I so badly want (and need) to get into the studio - you inspire me. Out of the many many blogs I read I know I can count on your blog to spark my imagination and get me dreaming about my next piece. The artists you select, the images of your work and your honest voice is SO VERY refreshing. Thank you thank you thank you.

yes it is a WOW moment.

Carole- Thank you so much for your incredibly kind comment. I spend a lot of time and energy on this little bird, mostly for myself, but it means so much that my readers get something out of it too. I personally feel if we were all a little more honest then we would probably all feel a little less alone. Thanks again.

So original. Her work just quietly grabs you. Stunned!

super cool! I love this. Does she make any smaller pieces on wood or canvas to sell as art?

wow, this is really impressive! I'd love to one day be able to make anything remotely complex yet refined as this.
I made a video of something similar on a much more basic scale:

wow, this work was a feature hit. SO glad everyone felt such a resonance with it. I hope to see it in person someday.

and Suzanne she does make smaller works to sell. You can see examples on her website but they would be perfect additions to a collection:)
