it's official I am an arts writer

I was delighted to come home and find my new Surface Design Journal waiting in the mail and I was even more excited to see it as there was my first PRINT article. I have long been writing on my blog and other folks blogs as well as had interviews and articles about my work published but this is the first full length article about the art world that I have had published in print.

When Marci Rae McDade, the new editor formerly of FiberArts magazine asked me to write an article featuring some artists whom I really admire and discuss my take on the contemporary Fiber world especially in NY I was more then delighted to say yes. I am not a "writer" of English major background therefore it was so rewarding to be able to work with an editor and have my work molded into exactly what I wanted to say. I have had an editor look over some other writing of mine in the past and they are worth their weight in gold.

It was great fun to have an excuse to contact all the artists and gallerist's that are mentioned in the article and as a result have incredibly rewarding and fascinating conversations with all of them. Getting the perspective of not only the artists but gallerists and curators too.

The article looks great with beautiful reproductions of featured artists Rebecca Ringquist, Emily Barletta, Elissa D'Arrigo, and Tod Hensley. I am really proud of the article and would LOVE to hear feedback from you.

If you are not already become a member of the SDA to get your journal along with many other great benefits. This months journal features ALL needlework which includes a great article by Jamie Chalmers, aka Mr. X Stitch and a review of Erin Endicott, Kathy Halper and so much more.

and to entice you further I have a another article in the Fall issue.

Later this week I will put some scans up so you can see the article clearer and write about the most interesting moments of my interviews.

yes, when Marci mentioned we were both in it I thought that was sooo appropriate. Loved yours. Wayne is actually in the show I curated in Brooklyn right now.
