You are home to me.

This Friday, August 12th, from 6-9pm, Brooklyn artist, Joetta Maue will be debuting her new collection of
embroideries and installation pieces entitled, You Are Home To Me.

According to Chinese myth, the gods tie an invisible red string around the ankles of those who are destined to be soul mates. The two people connected by the red thread are destined lovers, regardless of time, place or circumstances. This magical cord may stretch or tangle, but never break.

Inspired by this myth, Joetta Maue creates drawings of her "soul mate" and family in red thread: exemplifying her lover and child as her home, bound to her heart in an unbreakable way. She lovingly and slowly stitches their noses, fingers and hair, illustrating the deep and indescribable love we can feel for one another. For more by Joetta, go to JoettaMaue.com

This exhibit looks AMAZING! I wish I could get to Seattle to see it in person. I love the work. And the name and the idea behind it are beautiful, too. Gorgeous!

Thank you so much. I have always loved this myth and tried to make work about it but it never seemed to makes sense until now. :)
