OPENING RECEPTION: Friday, April 6, 7:30 - 8:30 pm
171 Cedar Arts Center is pleased to announce the opening of a new exhibition.
(r e) t h r e a d s is an exhibition of work by Lily Booth, Elizabeth Emery, Joetta Maue, and Elizabeth Switzer. Creating contemporary feminist artwork, the artists of (r e) t h r e a d s bring domestic materials of previous generations into the spotlight of our current culture. While doing so, the artists enter into dialogue with previous generations. Booth, Maue, and Switzer use found fabric and embroidery to create their work while Emery creates cast and bound ceramic work with the use of found fabric.
The exhibit is curated by Elizabeth Switzer. In her curatorial statement, Switzer writes, "Histories of individual needlework and the more general history of women's craft are the underlying theme of this exhibition. The materials used for these works were found - something already created for a different purpose and discarded, before being repurposed."
