playful polka dots!!

I know very little about Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama but her playful, bright, and busy installations, paintings, and soft sculptures definitely remind me of current Japanese culture, play, and being overwhelmed by lights and color.

I would love to visit her mind that thinks up these crazy and bright play lands of color.

And I was going to say I would love to see an installation in person and then realized that I had. I saw the astounding and moving work Infinity Room at Gagosian Gallery this spring. It was one of the most beautiful artworks I have ever experienced.

The press release states:
Aftermath of Obliteration of Eternity (2009), a mesmerizing "infinity room" that operates on a system of simple yet ingenious optical devices. In a dark void, a delicate, shimmering mirage unfolds around the viewer, a myriad of gleaming lights that reproduce and reflect endlessly upon each other in golden silence... the mysteries of the physical and metaphysical universe. And, among all these spirited emanations...continue to depict the undepictable in a steady, insistent pulse.

Inspiration!

I can't remember which gallery it's going to be at, but she's showing some of her work in London this summer- I shall be heading up to take a look at it.
