such amazing "blessings"

I was in Chelsea yesterday for a meeting and popped into PaceWildenstein Gallery and oh my goodness the show is amazing. If you are in NY run, don't walk, to see it.

Artist Zhang Huan has exhibits in both the 22nd and 25th street gallery and they are a sight to see.
The 25th gallery has a gi-normous, giant size pregnant female figure with a baby on the back, entirely covered in cow hide...
Yes, the large number of cowhides and the inclusion of the hooves did turn the stomach of this vegetarian, but the beauty of the peace and expression of the figure far outweighed my repulsion to the material.
In the adjacent gallery are a number of beautifully carved and collaged "memory doors" (the doors are discarded doors from traditional Chinese homes)

At the 22nd gallery is a GIGANTIC ash painting depiction of Chinese labourers. The ash is collected from the incense that is burned in temples. The piece is about 5-6 ft tall, and is the entire room of the gallery. You have to walk up on a suspended stairwell to see the work.

Zhang Huan has done a number of performance works and is one of the most revered Chinese artists living. This exhibition is just stunning so go, go, go....
And sorry for those of you who cannot go because the pictures just do not do the work justice at all.
