wish my granny could help me with the granny stitch.

why is the Internet giving me a head ache? My studio building has very thick old cement walls and sometimes the wonder of the Internet just cannot stand up to history and cement. Agh.

Anyway, this week I have been working away at teaching myself and practicing the granny stitch. It has been a frustrating ride as crochet is so hard to learn from images and no helpful friend. Last year I spent many, many hours trying to figure it out and then one hour with my grandma over Christmas and the light bulb went off.
I have a sweet little project in mind for the granny squares- but really I think I just want an excuse to do a repetitive action with yarn.
I am much more of a knitter but I really think crochet lends itself more to my work so I am taking lots of deep breaths and trying to find my patience. And hoping a good one day workshop comes up.

Also started a new "test" embroidery yesterday of a still life object. A new direction that I am thinking of going. If I like how it turns out I have 2 large or maybe 3 still lives in mind.
And some other stuff in the works- I think I will wait until next week to share that news and resulting project.

Keep warm. It is dreary and wet here in NYC.

i'll be in the city next week/end (the 22-26th) if you want to meet up for a cup of tea; i'd be happy to give you some granny guidance ;n)

I will let you in on my little secret. I learnt to do granny squares in like 10 minutes from youtube. There are a million crochet tutorials on there. Just type in whatever you want to learn and there will be someone showing you how to do it. It's brilliant!

I feel your pain. I learned to knit from a friend and I've always been more of a "show me" person. And I too really feel that crochet would better suit my work- but I still don't know how.

Anyway, I found this site recently: http://www.wonderhowto.com/arts-crafts/

it has much more to offer than crafty stuff- but that's, of course, my favorite section. I'm sure you can find lots of help there!

I agree with "This girl": I learned how to crochet in the first place from youtube, so I'm sure granny squares would be no different or any harder. I hope you get it figured out. I hope the still life experiment works!
